we spent wednesday night having a thanskgiving/ thanksdrinking celebration with a two couples from supper club: the doctor and missus doctor, and the couple the doctor refers to as talks-alot and eats-alot.
thanksgiving morning we got out of bed and started the drive to salado texas. i had no idea what to expect from thanksgiving-the first that E and i celebrate together and the first time i meet the rest of his family. his parents' house is on a big country lot and is very "texas hill country." the word salado means salty in spanish and i wondered all weekend why anyone would name a town salty. then i ate a meal with them and i knew the answer. they put salt on everything. tons of salt!
E's parents welcomed me and made me feel at home, so did his sister B and her husband and son and their four dogs. sister B is the one E refers to as the puerto rican rosanne. i saw the resemblance though it wasn't as glaring as i led myself to believe.
i think the most exciting thing that happened in salado over the weekend were the two queer guys [E and i] that came to town from dallas, and perhaps the girl who dropped the dozen eggs in line at the grocery store. said girl was behind me and i just knew i'd be walking into E's parents' house with a mysterious clear substance splattered on the back of my jeans. crisis averted, luckily. i wouldn't be so lucky the next night when the three-year-old nephew proceeded to smear melted marshmallows all over the front of my shirt and my jeans. little shit!
one unfortunate trait i noticed about E and his family is that the entire family cheats at games! i'm talking blatant cheating here. between E hiding cards under his chair, and his niece shoving seven uno cards down her socks. it must be a sickness. the cheating is so expected that during any game involving cards at least one person will pick up and double check any cards placed on the table. something about puerto rican genes must make them cheat constanly at games. i hope it's a recessive gene. even the three year old has already learned to cheat. i won two games of uno the honest way, but the victory seemed less sweet than had i won by dishonest means.

You guys had a super Thanksgiving. Congrats on the Uno wins. That's the best way to spend the holidays.
Jim: Thanks for posting to my blog. I really hope that the boycott did some good. Together, queers can let the straights know that we are pissed off, and that we'll continue to work together to have our relationships legally recognized.
