missing manners

what exactly is the proper protocol to follow when you find an article of clothing that belongs to someone else in with your laundry?

do you return it to the dryer in question, toss it in, leave it, and hope for the best? do you throw it in the garbage? do you hang it on the coin tray of the dryer in question, displaying it for all the world to see, and the owner to hopefully claim? should it be folded or unfolded?

would your answer differ if it were a ladies panty? or would the correct answer depend on what type of ladies panty? what if it were a dull grey "hanes her way" with elastic that has nearly surpassed it's intended life span?

for the record i quickly tossed it in the garbage and immediately took the garbage out, lest an unannounced visitor should see and question my choice of undergarmets, as well as my taste in fashion as a whole.

I think the answer to this question completely lies in what is the article of clothing and what condition it is in.
For example, you would probably proudly display or even (gasp!) abscond with said article if it was a fabulous sweater or a well worn jock(don't even try to deny it!).
However, stained women's panties would be a different story entirely(no offense intended)!

no one uses the word abscond anymore, and that saddens me.

If it was a pair of underwear with skidmarks, I'd definately display it for the world to see. Or if it had tons of holes.
