funny thing, i was on the flight back from los angeles to dallas last night minding my own business. after the ladies of the air served the obligatory drinks, i asked the cute young hetero couple sitting next to me if they minded if i wateched a movie. i didn't want the light from the screen of my laptop to keep them awake if they decided to sleep.
the movie selection du soir was tilsammans from lukas moodysson. a harmless flick about a swedish commune way back in nineteen seventy-five.
about twenty minutes into the flight a stewardess stopped by and asked if i might stop playing the movie in the laptop as it had become bothersome to some people seated near me. i glared at the couple next to me, but i knew it wasn't them. i told stewardess that i'd dim the screeen. but she said it wasn't the screen, it was what the film that i was watching that some passengers found offensive.
okay, so not far into the movie it showed a nice swedish girl standing in the kitchen with her buhgina showing. she had a fungal infection it seems and needed it to air out to help heal. not being a doctor, i'll buy that as a logical reason. one of the guys in the commune decided that in all fairness he could take his own undies down and sit around with his cock out. well, apparently full-frontal nudity offended some right-wing republican woman seated in seat eighteen-b. i was in sixteen-d, across the aisle and up two rows. i told the stewardess that perhaps mizz anita bryant might look elsewhere if she didn't appreciate liberal swedish cinematography. i was asked not to make a big issue out of it and could i turn the movie off.
fine. i obliged and then slipped in another movie:: hamam, the turkish bath. one of my favourite films ever. when it got to the steamy gay love scenes, without nudity, to keep the right-winger sitting over the wings happy, i replayed it something like two dozen times, as i nodded my head in agreement of the love-making i was witnessing.
like most people, i love seeing two men be passionate on screen. and i was hoping mizz right-wing was equally entertained and as physically excited as i was. i know she was watching. when i got up to go piss, so i could see her face-to-face, i grabbed my business-class right in front of her.
yes, perhaps it was lower class of me to grab my business-class, but it did make me feel somewhat satisfied that i could, as a gay man, still annoy the fuck out of closed-minded bitches, albeit at thirty-five thousand feet.

You know what? I am a peacemaker. I hate rocking the boat or upsetting people. But I think in this case I would have done the same thing. And I am proud of you.
My exboyfriend would traditionally buy a Penthouse magazine in the airport bookstore and keep it on his tray, flipping through it the entire flight--just to piss people off. Of course, I think it would have been a whole lot more effective if it had been Honcho or Black Inches. What a pussy.
Ahh...The restraint you show is amazing and quite admirable!
First, do you think it possible the flight attendant did not understand the role an attendant plays. Some examples would be: pleasantly greeting you, liberally pouring the Finlandia, and bidding you a fond fair well.
Second, grabbing your business class was the least you could do for your intrusive fellow passenger. Next time, might I suggest making your way down the aisle with a cocktail in hand. If the turbulent conditions dictate that it must land all over before mentioned peasant, so be it!
