it has been years since i've actually driven home to kansas. it is, after all, a seven hour drive to get there from dallas. but last weekend i decided to do just that. and i certainly am glad that i did. the flint hills, northwest of wichita were amazing. so beautiful and green and that area is always the highlight of the drive for me. you can see forever it seems and there are hardly any trees or cows to get you distracted.
one of the best things about going home is the food. it is so damn cheap to eat in a college town. and the beer. i hauled two cases of my favourite beer home. and as a side note: you have to love a town, a university town at that, that is still so anti-chain stores that gap and abercrombie go out of business. sure the old navy is trhriving next door to wal-mart, then again, old navy is wal-mart. all in all it was a perfect way to close out the long hot days of august even though i was a bit sad to know that i am most definitely not in kansas any more.
