there i was, minding my own business, listening to itunes and surfing the net [maybe it was for porn, maybe it was for a trip to some far-off, happening destination like paris, stockholm, madrid, or kalamazoo] then suddenly my i started hearing this clicking sound coming from my computer. at first, i took it for a drum machine in the background while kelly marie belted out "it feel like i'm in love" [the nineties remix if you must know!] then it came back during shirley bassey's propellerheads remake of "diamonds are forever." a few seconds later the bottom of my powerbook heated up and started burning my leg and the screen turned white. i powered it down, as i'd learned as a young cub scout from three-mile island and chernobyl: when a meltdown is about to occur, power down. just between you and i, the meltdown had probably already occured [just like three-mile island and chernobyl!]
anyway, it wouldn't power back up, it just kept clicking. so i called the local apple store and told them the problem, and said i'd like to bring it in for repairs.
"sir, you need to make an appointment with someone at the genius bar."
"okay," i said, "i'd like to make an apointment with someone at the genius bar."
"all of the appointments are booked for today, so you'll have to try for tomorrow."
"okay, can i make an appointment for tomorrow then?"
"you need to go online and make it on our store's website on apple dot com."
perhaps you didn't hear me, i said my computer will not even boot up. now how the hell do i go online and make a reservation for the genius bar? what the hell kind of a genius set that shitty system up?!" and with that i hung up. and i knew that my hard drive was fried before it was confirmed by the so-called troll genius at the apple store. now i face the task of replacing it myself and then trying to find a way to recover the pictures and other files that are trapped on the bum disk.
it's funny how apple products have become the trendy accessories to have now, what with the nanos and twelve-inch laptops and the cinema screens, but their customer service has to be among the worst in the industry, being all elitist unavailable. just abyssimal. it's disappointing that another industry leader is now taking their customers for granted, because they can.

I ran into that in the store. But the guy was more interested in hitting on me and getting my phone number then to tell me that I could use one of their in store computers to fill out the "genius bar" request form.
